The LAURA RECOVERY CENTER has organized searches for more than 75 children that we believe were abducted.
When contacted by the family of a missing child or by the responsible law enforcement agency the LRC will assist in whatever manner we think will help bring that child home.
Our response varies by circumstance, but if we believe that the child may have been abducted, the LRC will help a child's community organize a search for that child. When we organize a search for an abducted child we follow the procedures outlined in the LAURA RECOVERY MANUAL, "Conducting a Search for a Missing Child". We usually send 2 or 3 trained LRC personel to set up a search. Working with local volunteers, we will:
- Establish a Recovery Center as a headquarters for the search.
- Work with the community to acquire needed resources for the search.
- Register and track all volunteers.
- Work with the media to inform the community about the missing child.
- Prepare and distribute flyers about the missing child.
- Support the family of the missing child.
- Prepare search maps for the search teams.
- Brief search volunteers about the search and evidence.
- Organize search teams and search team leaders.
- De-brief search teams and document all search results.
- Work to establish and promote a Triangle of Trust among the community, the missing child's family, and local law enforcement.
- Work closely with the local law enforcement agency.
- Provide copies of all recovery center information to the local law enforcement agency.
As the search is being organized, we work with local law enforcemnet and volunteers so that if the child is not found quickly, after a few days local volunteers are conducting all aspects of the search.
The LRC never charges for its services.
