2006 Laura Smither Scholarship Awarded
The Laura Smither Scholarship is a merit based scholarship open to all the children of Friendswood. The Scholarship Committee of the Laura Recovery Center - for missing children - proudly announces that Friendswood High School graduate Trudy Taylor is this year's recipient. This annual $3,000 scholarship honors the memory of Laura Kate Smither.
Trudy is an outstanding young lady and scholar. Her hobbies include weight boarding, surfing, musical theater, and painting. Trudy will be attending Pepperdine University in California, majoring in International Studies, and specializing in Chinese and Asian studies. Her minor will be in Spanish.
In high school, Trudy has excelled, becoming a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society, and has been recognized as a National Merit Commended Scholar.
She has demonstrated her commitment to her community, with mission trips to Mexico and Costa Rica and volunteer work at Hope Village, Star of Hope Mission, and at a hurricane relief center.
Trudy enjoys mission work and hopes to be able to do mission work in Asia in a few years. The first priority in her life is to glorify Christ. She will be traveling to England this summer on a mission trip to Durham. While at Pepperdine, Trudy will be involved in inner city mission outreach programs in Los Angeles.
The Laura Smither Scholarship committee wishes Trudy every success in her college years and beyond.
Any Friendswood resident is eligible for this merit based scholarship. Application forms can be found at the high schools in Friendswood, at the Laura Recovery Center, at the Friendswood Library, and at www.LRCF.org.
Tax exempt donations to the Laura Smither Scholarship Endowment Fund will be gratefully received at Wells Fargo Bank in Friendswood or by check mailed to the Laura Recovery Center at 603 W. Edgewood, Friendswood, Texas 77546.
